Framing Treated Pine Western Red Cedar Cedar naturally resists moisture, rot, and insects. Outlasts pine by decades in outdoor conditions.
Wire Mesh 1/2″ Galvanized 1/2″ PVC-Coated PVC coating prevents rust and protects birds from scraping feathers. Standard galvanized wire rusts within 5–8 years.
Roofing Asphalt Shingle Metal Standing Seam Metal roofs last 50+ years, reflect heat, and won't absorb moisture. Critical in hot summer climates for bird comfort.
Fasteners Galvanized Stainless Steel Stainless steel hardware never rusts and won't corrode against cedar. Galvanized corrodes against cedar within 3–5 years.
Floor Plywood Slatted Cedar Slatted cedar floors keep birds off droppings, stay dry, and prevent bumblefoot. Plywood floors trap moisture and breed bacteria.
Entrance Holes Cut PVC Pipe Machine-Formed Rings Machine-formed rings have smooth, rounded edges that protect wing feathers. Cut pipe edges are sharp and cause wing damage over time.
